Information for Parents from the League

Coaches:
We will be awarding a regular season championship trophy for each age group.  For those new to the league, its based solely on points earned throughout the season.  You get 3 for a win and 1 for a tie.  The team with the most at the end of the season is the champion.  Our only tiebreaker will be head-to-head record.  Any ties after that, we will simply award co-champions.  The GD listing on your schedule is for goal differential but will not be used as a tie breaker.  The last thing we want is a team needing to win their last two games by 30 points to win a trophy and having to run up the score on weaker teams.  I just use goal differential to help seed the tournament...not decide championships.
The tournament will begin the week after the regular season ends.  We will finish by the Saturday before Thanksgiving or just not finish at all.  No games will be played after Saturday November 18th .  We will play them as quickly as possible to finish as early as possible.  The tournament schedule will be released in about a week or so.  We will NOT have elimination games.  I will explain format when schedule is released.  But with as many people leaving town on the 18th...we will be done by then regardless.
Now that cooler weather is here...let's go over what kids can do to stay warm.  They can wear as many layers and sweatshirts and jackets as they want....as long as their jersey is on top.  They can not play with a jacket over the jersey.  No exceptions.  Let parents know that jackets and hoodies go under the jersey.  Its impossible to referee a game when there are gray, red, blue, green, orange sweatshirts everywhere.  Pants are allowed....it would be better if they wore tights or compression pants under shorts....but we won't require people to go out and buy them.  Pants are fine.  Toboggans and ear warmers are fine.  Gloves are fine.
We are at the point in the season where games will need to be played as scheduled.  We are running out of dates for make up games.  We obviously can't play on flooded fields or during storms.  But will likely have to play through some chilly weather.
If you have had a rough season in terms of wins and losses.  Don't worry.  Almost every team having a good season has gone through the same exact thing in the past.  The most important thing is that your kids are having a good time and want to return next spring and play for YOU.  If you come in last but everybody signs up for more...you had a good year.  You made a positive impression on them.  If you win a trophy and your team doesn't return.  It was not very successful.
One last thing....a lot of kids will have to move up after this season.  All players born in odd numbered years will move up.  2011's move up to U8.  2009's move up to U10.  2007's move up to U12.  2005's move up to U14.  It doesn't matter if they were born on January 1st or December 31st.  They must move up.  Even numbered birth years stay where they are.  2013's already playing U6 can play U6 in  both 2018 and 2019.  So if you have a young U6 team...just think how good your players will be 2 years from now still playing at the same level.
Thanks for a great season so far!
Ben Guest, League Director
